Who: Hazel
What: Practice and some teasing
Where: The library
When: Afternoon, late July/early August
Warnings: None
Notes:None
It was a hot day but, not so hot that Hazel would have skipped walking to the library. Well, maybe she would have if her father hadn't forgotten his lunch or if she had a book in another language at home to practice her translation spell on.
The sudden chill from the air conditioning in the library made her pause by the door.
"I guess I don't have to call your mom about my lunch," her dad said from behind the front desk. "She must be busy if she made you come out in this heat." He came out from behind the desk and herded her farther into the library. "Not going to wilt are you?" he teased.
"Daaad, I'm not a flower," Hazel whined. "And I need a book in a language I don't know," she added in an attempt to cut the teasing short.
"What? You're actually going to study today?" He paused thoughtfully. "Girl your age should go out more. You know, my new assistant is about your age. Maybe you could..."
He stopped when he realized that Hazel kinda looked like she wanted to sink into the floor.
"Fine, fine. Just thought you might find him as interesting as his little fan club seems to." There was a hint of worry in his expression that disappeared almost immediately. "Different language books are on the back wall. There's a table back there you can study at without being bothered too much. stay until it cools down a bit. I don't want you wilting on the way home." That he was being protective was obvious.
Hazel wrinkled her nose at the repeated reference to wilting and the protectiveness but, otherwise didn't protest. She just muttered a quiet 'okay' and went to select a book and sit at the table.
...
About a half an hour later Hazel was muttering what her attempt at the translation spell got her.
"...and the Goddess said 'you can has way hoem if you goes on epic qwest'." She stopped and looked at the text oddly. "That can't be right..." She flipped a couple pages. "...And teh hero said to his buddies 'Let's mosey'?"
